This summer, “Last Will and Embezzlement,” a new documentary by author and filmmaker Pamela S.K. Glasner, made its debut at the Fraud Prevention Expo in Springfield, Virginia.

The film highlights the growing problem of financial fraud and abuse among nursing home residents.

Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli spoke before the screening.

“A simple rule of thumb is this: If you receive a call asking for personal information or money, never give it. Just hang up,” said Cuccinelli. “Only when you initiate the call should you ever consider giving out personal information.”

He said that his office has investigated over 17,000 complaints of elder abuse across the state in the last year based on the most recent data. The goal, he warned, is to prevent individuals and companies from defrauding senior citizens.

The documentary includes “first-hand accounts from real-life victims, including Hollywood icon Mickey Rooney, as well as in-depth interviews with experts who discuss such key issues as victim profiles, the perpetrators’ modus operandi, reasons for vulnerability, as well as potential solutions to this ever-increasing worldwide problem.”

Future screenings are scheduled later this year, including as part of a day-long symposium hosted by the Hartford Center on Geriatric Nursing Excellence and the law school at Penn State University.

This documentary is really good.  This is true that there are lots of nursing homes and help home which are fraud and only for earning money. They don’t provide any help to the elders.
